Pregnancy Must Haves Part 1

Pregnancy is like…hard…LOL.

A lot of things have to change (even things you didn’t know had to change), like from what you put on your face and skin, to even what you can and cannot ingest.

It’s V hard navigating the do’s and don’ts and the BEST products.

So, I just wanted to share my some of my must have, FAVE, pregnancy products.

The best part is, you can use these products even if you aren’t pregnant.

Take what you want, leave what you don’t. Just sharing what’s been working for me. xx.

LET’S GO.

Must Haves for Pregnancy: Part 1

Seed Phytonutrients Shampoo and Conditioner

Who would have thought you have to worry about what kind of shampoo and conditioner you use while pregnant?

This naïve betch didn’t know.

You guys THE BUMP.com has pretty much saved my life and been my savvy resource for all thing’s pregnancy. Thanks BUMP!

Each week of pregnancy they shower you with articles to keep you in the know and one of them was about shampoo and conditioner.

You think, shampoo is only on your hair for a few minutes, so it’s ok, right? WELL. Not exactly.

{via the bump}

Here’s the deal: The ingredient sodium lauryl sulfate, found in shampoos, has been linked to birth defects in animal studies. Other ingredients to watch out for in haircare products include parabens; rosemary; synthetic fragrances, which may contain phthalates; and a preservative called methylisothiazolinone Phthalates may alter hormone levels. How these chemicals affect a human fetus really isn’t known (scientists _don’t _test chemicals on pregnant women). Plus, your hair follicles provide entry points into your skin, so those chemicals could easily enter your body.

Basically, we want to say PEACE to those nasty chemicals.

Pregnancy Must Haves Part 1

Seed Phytonutrients Shampoo and Conditioner is completely clean and is free of:

♡ Parabens ♡

♡ Gluten ♡

♡ Sulfate ♡

They are vegan products and don’t test on animals.

Their formulas utilize sunflower seed oil, camelina seed oil, coconut, shea butter, and turmeric, which are rich in vitamin C and vitamin E. YOU KNOW, we are about the oils.

The product is 100% sustainable with a bottle made from recyclable goods, they support local American organic farmers to source their ingredients + each bottle comes with an heirloom seed packet for you to grow basil, arugula and thyme, among others.

J and I have green thumbs, so we think this is so fucking cool.

Orgaid Face Masks

I LOVE doing face masks. I try to do one once a week. J loves it too.

Makes your face feel bright and refreshed, you know?

The best part about Orgaid is that they are completely GREEN. Totally natural. Non-Toxic and CLEAN.

Perfect for a pregnant (& non-pregnant women).

My fave is the Vitamin C Revitalizing mask, which used vitamin C and collagen – tightens the skin up.

There is lots of

♡ lemon ♡

♡ orange ♡

♡ pomegranate ♡

♡ lavender ♡

♡ rose hip ♡

oil in the mask – you know I love a good oil.

+ it fights aging…nothing makes you feel more “old” then having a baby!

THE BEST PART. I can read all the ingredients and they are all mostly oils!

Belli Elasticity Belly Oil

Next up, more oils!

Belli has a BUNCH of products for your face and body +  a whole pregnancy safe skincare line.

I am obsessed with their Elasticity Belly Oil which is OB/GYN and Derm recommended.

Pregnancy Must Haves Part 1

I did A LOT of research on stretch marks and what I found was that stretch marks are mainly all about genetics. Most likely if your mom, or other family members had stretch marks, you will too – that’s not to say a Vitamin E won’t work for you.

Vitamin E – one of the main active ingredients in this belly oil, help promote elasticity in the skin.

“When your skin in more elastic, it’s able to stretch more, which minimizes the tissue tearing that leads to stretch marks.”

Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks

NOW – if the oil doesn’t work, use every mama’s secret ingredient, COCOA BUTTER.

Literally EVERY mom I talked to sweared by this shit.

Although Vitamin E is proven to help with elasticity, when I did my research there was no scientific evidence saying that cocoa butter can do anything specifically for stretch marks….

HOWEVER, like I said, every mama I know bet their life on this shit, soooo yeah….imma go with that.

Pregnancy Must Haves Part 1

This cream smells so yummy, think a beach and a pina colada. It super soft, non-greasy and is packed with collagen and shea butter in addition to the cocoa butter.

I like this brand because of the extra stuff. Like I said earlier, collagen tightens the skin, so naturally you would think it would help prevent stretch marks.

++ I also just want to add…there is NOTHING wrong with stretch marks in any situation, but like, specifically with pregnancy. They are like beautiful scars and reminders that you grew a human inside of you, which, come on…is fucking wild.

Leachco Back n Belly Pillow

Again, I did A LOT of research on the right preggo pillow!

Are you sensing a pattern here? Don’t just take my word for all of this, please do all of your own research!

Back to the pillow.

The pillow is fucking amazing. Like, plain and simple.

Not gonna lie…it is on the pricier side, but for me, well worth it.

The pillow gives me support on my back, since I am sleeping on my left side, but also support my belly in the front.

Pregnancy Must Haves Part 1

It fits naturally into the curve of my body and has amaziiinnnnnnggg neck support.

I got the ‘Chic Supreme’ which comes in a bunch of cute colors & its fucking huge!

I have been using this since the first trimester…complexly unnecessary, and I also bring it into the living room just to lay on the couch. It is THAT comfortable.

I must say though…its like the foursome you never wanted…between me, Justin, Khush and the pillow…the bed is V tight AND we have a king.

SORRY not SORRY JUSTIN.

I know I’ve given you a crap ton of stuff to think about, so I’ll let it all sink in and talk to you guys next week with PART 2.

Xx

I wish I had a back and belly pillow when I was still having babies. That would have been so nice to have. Sure looks like it will give any pregnant woman a restful sleep. Those lotions and creams to help with stretch marks are essential! Better to take care of ourselves, not only for us, but for the family that relies so much on us mommies.

These are lovely products and I love a lot when skincare is enriched with essential oils and nurturing oils. Sadly when pregnant some natural products enriched withe essential oils can be harmful, sage for example must be avoided .

Thanks for including something that is Vegan and cruelty-free. While I am no longer in the market for any of that – my kids are 17 and 23 – I am a sucker for good products that are up to my ethical standards. How cool is that, that they include seeds in their package! Love that company! Blessings!

These seem like nice products. I like the fact that they are organic and cruelty-free. The leggo back and belly pillow looks super comfortable too.

I’m very into clean skincare and peruse products before buying. I have specific brands I use just for their phytonutrients and Orgaid masks are good. Our skin is a pollution pathway and everything we put on it permeates through pores into blood stream so you should be careful when pregnant. I’m Nigerian so all mamas going generations back use original shea butter or traditionally formulated creams & oils for stretch marks, way before Palmer’s was formed lol. You need to rub and gently massage your belly with it even if you’re flat. This way, they’re not too visible when you give birth.

I’m not even pregnant and I would LOVE one of those body pillows! They look so so comfy and cosy…I wonder if it’d be weird to order one just because?! Palmers cocobutter is always a winner too, there’s nothing as nourishing and soothing when your skin is dry or itchy! x

Thank you for your list. Very helpful. Pregnancy can be overwhelming and when you find valuable information that goes straight to the point, it is very appreciable.
