What’s In My Hospital Bag

What's In My Hospital Bag

I know there has been quite a bit of baby content lately, but well, I’m having a baby, and I like to keep this blog relevant with things that are going on in my life as well as things I love! So, like, THE HOSPITAL BAG. It’s an important piece of your labor and delivery.

Literally every mom I know has given advice on what to bring. I think the hospital bag is a V personal thing you know. I can’t stand when I have gone to blogs and seen people write in the comments section that the mom to be has gone overboard, or that they won’t need X, Y or Z.

Like, who cares? Maybe we will use the items and maybe we won’t. In my opinion its better to be overprepared (& overpacked than be stressing because I forgot something.

So, basically, I bought pretty much everything I needed off Amazon. I have added all the items to my Amazon page here. Then there were things like toiletries and stuff that I just had, so there was no need to buy them.

I am going to break down the list by my stuff and baby’s stuff.

First let’s start with the actual hospital bag – honestly, I have more shit than I expected so I might need to throw some stuff into Justin’s bag, but whatever. This bag is V cute and gives me the boho vibes.

It’s a “weekender bag,” perfect for overnight travel.  It’s a duffel tote with a shoe pouch on the bottom for my slippers and comfy socks.

I also got these cute diaper bag essentials. You know a bag to put my stuff in, makeup, lip gloss, you get it. A bag for diapers and wipes. A bag for some candy and then a bag for the baby’s WET STUFF.

So let’s get into it. It’s kind of a hefty list.

What's In My Hospital Bag

For Mama:

Bag

This is the perfect weekender bag and can be used for so many different types of trips.

Frida Mom Instant Ice Maxi Pads

I’ve hear these are a GOD SEND. They are literally called “padsicles” and are super absorbent are like instant cold therapy for your vagina.

iloveSia Nursing Bra

These bras come in a 3 pack and are definitely a deal! They are super soft and wire free and have one handed access to clip down for nursing. Plus they are super stretchy and aren’t rough on the back.

Intimate Portal Underwear

So these are TOTAL mom, grannypanties, but like, whatever. I have been wearing these almost my entire pregnancy. If you read this article HERE, then you know the SMELLS that come along with pregnancy. Having breathable, cotton underwear is a MUST. These panties are especially good postpartum because they sit right under your bump so you won’t be affected if you have a C-section.

Depends

Speaking of underwear…adult diapers are necessary for a vaginal birth. I hear its like a GD murder scene down there. Rather have these disposable adult diapers to take care of that situation.

Robe

Justin treated me to this really plush kimono style robe wrap for nursing. It’s got velvet details (LOVE), side slits and is actually pretty heavy to keep me warm in the hospital.

Labor and Delivery Gown

One thing every mama to be should note. You DON’T have to wear that gross paper gown they give you at the hospital. With the amount of sweating and liquids and stuff…that paper gown is not breathable and its super itchy!

Do yourself a favor and get yourself an easy access cotton gown that also matches your aesthetic, because, I mean, why not?

Earth Mama Nipple Butter

I have heard nothing but good things about this butter. It’s organic and all natural to help those sore nipples.

Medela Nipple Gel Pads

I also got these in addition to the above. The pump I got is Medela also and the brand has such a great reputation. These pads cool upon contact and are reusable for up to 24 hours! + they like contour to your nipples.

Toiletries

I’ve got the basics here:

toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, deo, towel, shower cap, body and face lotion, face wash.

If you want to get specific with brands just drop me a comment below or a DM on IG and I’ll give you the deats.

Makeup

Same here. Let me know if you want the specifics. These days I am keeping my makeup V simple with a little mascara, blush and a little CC cream and gloss. Going for that natural look, you know.

What's In My Hospital Bag

PJ’s

Honestly – pj’s are just a pair of Justin’s old adidas trackpants and one of his t-shirts.

Sweatpants are all that fit my right now.

Brown Dyed Girl Going Home Outfit

OK – this is one of my favorite things!!! I got me, the baby and J matching going home sweat suit sets from Brown Dyed Girl.

The sets were custom made with the colors of our choice.

LIKE STOP, right!!!

Other Comfy Clothes

LEGGINGS, leggings, leggings + baggy sweatshirts ( I wish Justin was bigger, because his size medium shirts just aren’t doing the trick. Extra large please)

Minnetonka Moccasin Slippers

I freaking love my Minnetonka Moccasin Slippers. They are made from sheepskin and are some warm and comfy.

Comrad Compression Socks

These socks have helped so much my ENTIRE pregnancy. They are compression socks which have really helped with the swollen ankles and calves. They help with circulation and reduce swelling.

The other pair of socks I am bringing are kind of like a sock/slipper combo. Not sure what brand they are, but Justin got them for me a few Christmas’s ago and I am OBSESSED. In general, hospitals are cold, so bring socks!

Snacks

You cannot eat once you go into labor and delivery. EVERY mom has told me to eat before hand and to pack snacks for immediately after. Giving birth is no joke. It’s hard work and you burn a BUNCH of calories.

Honestly, Justin knows that as soon as the baby is popped out he better order me some sushi and a big bowl of pasta! I’m not kidding either.

SO in the meantime, we packed these hard candies  (among other things – protein bars, nuts, fruit) to suck on during labor. I hear there is a lot of teeth grinding.

Pillow

I am bringing my own pillow because I’m a picky bitch. I hate extra soft pillows. I need something firm and something that will support my neck.

Justin and I got these Tempur-Pedic Cloud pillows and they are my favorite! We have been using them for almost a year now.

 Cell Phone Charger

I was told to get an extra long charger because the wall plugs aren’t exactly convenient in the hospital. I got this long one off amazon and I use it by my bed too. Its come in super handy!

Hydro Flask

My Hydro Flask has become my best friend during pregnancy. I have always drank a lot of water, but I kicked it into high gear with the baby and this flask goes EVERYWHERE with me. I am sure I will need A LOT of water during labor and delivery.

Heating Pad

I did a Q&A on IG a few weeks ago for advice and so MANY MOMS said to have a heating pad with you in the hospital.

Mom’s can’t be wrong, right?

What's In My Hospital Bag

For Baby:

Uppa Baby Car Seat

Had to go with the Uppa Baby! I’ve read and heard so many good reviews about ALL their products. We even got the Vista stroller in green!

Diapers

Wipes

Receiving Blanket

This blanket is legitimately the SOFTEST thing ever!

We received a lot of beautiful blankets, but this one from my manager and his wife just really takes the cake. I’m obsessed. I need it in an adult size too.

Going Home Outfit

We had custom matching tie dye outfits made by Brown Dyed Girl! Justin and I have a sweat set and baby has a onesie. Her embroidery machine broke, or otherwise mine would have said “mommy,” Justin’s, “dad” and baby’s “Baby M.”

HOW CUTE RIGHT?!

Swaddles

Onesies

What's In My Hospital Bag

Socks

Mittens

Hats

Baby Bottle

Pacifier

We went over ALOT in this post. I might have missed some things and I might have gone overboard on some things. Oh well. What was in your bag?

xx

I can’t believe you’re packing your hospital bag, it feels like just yesterday you were announcing your pregnancy! I really hope it all goes as well as it possibly can and I can’t wait to see you and the little one all matchy matchy on the way home x

Dang I am so glad I skipped out on this motherhood thing! Seems like a lot of stuff. I can’t imagine going into labor and hospital during the pandemic. Hoping you have a successful, easy and stress free time!

This list is helpful. Thank you for the reminder about compression socks. My sister has advised me to get one but I have totally forgot about it.

Wow this list is comprehensive and super helpful especially for first time moms. It’s nice how you got into every detail of what needs to be prepared for with recommendations, better to be overprepared than to be stressed out.
