You guys! I am absolutely obsessed with this series.
I am learning so much while researching and testing out the health and beauty benefits of numerous spices, herbs, flowers and fruits. It is crazy!
Even more so is your response to this series. I am thrilled that it can be of use to so many people out there.
Today I am diving into SAGE.
Sage in an herb that most people only see/eat/taste during Thanksgiving. The spice is green with grey hues and blooms amazingly beautiful, blue, purple and pink flowers.
It has a pretty strong odor, so you will def know if it is the room.
A huge player in traditional Chinese and European medication and is often used for every day household items such as soap or beauty products.
There are so many varieties of the herb…to be honest I was a little shocked. I had no idea, which makes me want to pay more attention when I am buying it at the grocery store.
Clary Sage: super aromatic and mainly used for throat gargling and perfumes.
Three-Lobed Sage: used for tea
Pineapple Sage: very fresh and light; mostly used to flavor drinks and desserts.
Azure Sage: native to Mexico with blue flowers and is used as herbal panacea.
So how can this herb help you?
Health and Beauty Benefits of Sage:
Helps Excessive Sweating:
An excellent deodorizer which dries perspiration and helps to eliminate body odor.
Dental Health:
Can be used as a homemade mouthwash. It treats gum disease, throat infections, and cankers.
Is Beneficial for Women:
There are many astringent tannin’s and estrogenic effects in sage.
Treatment of Depression:
The herb improves concentration and help the attention span by helping with grief and depression when used with aromatherapy.
Treats Asthma:
The anti-spasmodic effect of sage reduces tension in smooth muscles and as a result can be used for steam inhalation to prevent asthma attacks. It is effective in removing mucous congestion in the airways as well as preventing secondary infections
Tones Oily Skin:
Regulates sebum production in oily complexion.
Anti-ageing:
The antioxidants in the versitile herb reverse the signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. The antioxidants provide protection against free radicals that damage skin cells, causing premature ageing of the skin. This herb is loaded with calcium and vitamin A, which protect your skin against the assault of free radicals and aid in daily cell regeneration, minimizing and delaying the onset of facial wrinkles
Stimulates Hair Growth:
Because a combination of sage and rosemary is excellent for making your hair thicker, shinier and stronger, it is particularly effective in encouraging new hair growth as it improves circulation to the scalp, providing more nutrition to the hair follicles. Being an astringent, it reduces dandruff and prevents clogged hair follicles too.
Sage as a Hair Lotion:
May be used to prepare a setting lotion to make your hair manageable and improve its texture.
Darkens Hair:
Sometimes is used to darken and intensify hair color. An infusion of fresh sage leaves can darken grey hair as well as deepen the color of brown or black hair and impart shine to it.
Since sage is excellent for hair growth, it is even better to treat hair loss. Mix 3 to 4 drops of sage, rosemary and peppermint essential oil with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Massage directly into your scalp twice a day.
Keep all that hair girl!
