Short & Spicy: Blogging Life; Yes, I know I’m Being a Bitch

Short & Spicy Blogging Life Yes, I know I’m Being a Bitch

If you come to Sweet and Masala regularly you have probably noticed that my posting frequency has gone down.

I used to post 3x’s a week and over the last 2 months I just haven’t been feeling it.

truth.

I don’t think I have lost my passion for writing, I think I have just been experiencing a lot of writers block and I don’t like to put content out there for the sake of putting it there.

Does that make sense?

I have also had a REALLY busy couple of months and the blog just got put on the back burner.

I know, I know, this all probably sounds like excuses, but I have to say, it is definitely hard juggling a full time job with blogging.

If you’re already a blogger you know the time commitment it takes to make it in this industry. For those of you who don’t know, it is essentially another full time job.

Posting on social media, engaging with readers and followers, brainstorming for new content, actually that producing new content, photoshoots, editing, interviews, always looking for the next new thing/topic….

IT’S EXHAUSTING.

To all of you out there who are still managing the hustle I give you major props! The time commitment is astronomical and well, I want to know HOW you do it.

That’s right; I am looking to you guys! I need you!

How do you balance the time?

Although I feel like I have been really good at this for the last 2 years, now that the requirements at my day job are pretty demanding, I come home feeling tired and then on the weekends I want to do nothing!

I need help getting over this hurdle.

I need help coming up with fresh content. How do you do it?

I usually write about things that I know about and love, but being in this business is so much more than that.

It’s all about the “wiifm;” What’s in it for me? As a reader, what’s in it for YOU to come to a site every day and read?

Is it the pretty pictures? Recipes? Beauty advice? What?

I guess the main thing I need help with is passion….like I said earlier, I don’t think I have lost all my passion, but sometimes things in this world get discouraging.

You work so hard on a post to then hear nothing…crickets…silence….or worse negativity.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but living on the internet opens you up to so much unwanted negativity.

How do you get through this?

Ok, I get it. This post was a total bitch post.

Even reading this back all I hear is “you’re being a little bitch Komal.” Nonetheless, any advice that you may have is SO appreciated.

anyways. Off to watch The Bachelorette. No spoilers please! I am behind.

Xx

I’ve been blogging since late 2008, I totally get this post. It’s good to take a break sometimes though, helps us recoup and get centered again!

I understand how it feels like to not be able to write a post because you don’t know what to write about to begin with. Bloggers come across this from time to time. It will come, you’ll be writing more posts again in no time!

I feel your sentiments, sometimes it really is hard to come up with a blog and provide a great content. But I suggest you give yourself a break first, find more inspirations so you can start on writing again.

I blog whenever I want to. That’s the beauty of owning your own blog. Blogging burnout is real though. Go for walks in nature.. and pray and meditate. Believe me, they all help with your psyche!

I know that when you become a blogger, you really BECOME a blogger. You eat and breathe blogging because you’re always thinking about what makes good content. All your creativity eventually comes out once you get to the point where you feel like you’ve invested so much time into it that you just want to keep going!

I think the most important part of blogging is that you need to enjoy doing it, the minute it becomes a chore is when you need to sit back and re think the whole blogging bit. May be you could try another niche or change the look of your blog like a mini makeover. Sometimes it just needs a small change to revive things. How about starting a weekly news round type of post highlighting a couple of feel good moments, a meal you enjoyed, a dress or outfit you saw in the window? Some thing like this type of post gives you scope to vary your content . I hope you get over your writers block soon. As for the sharing social media thing have you tried IFTT its great for scheduling .

I haven’t tried it. I am going to look into it. Thank you so much! I also agree with everything you said. Once it’s work it’s not fun!

Thank you for your honesty! Blogging is literally a job and every blogger wants to be and feel apprecitative for their efforts. I don’t think it was bitchy, I think it was real. Keep pushing forward!

I have my ups and downs and I admire you for posting 3times a week. I do it once a week if I have subject to write about. Writer’s block is a not nice feeling

Thanks for being so honest. People have no idea of the time commitment and I too have gone weeks without posting because of the work involved. I hope you come back with the passion!
