It’s a (hand)bag kind of life

Tory Burch SHOULDER BAG

SO this post is a little uncharacteristic for me – well, because I don’t really feel like I know this space.

I know what I like, and I know what I don’t like…but I have NO idea what the trends are.

Ok.

Let me back up.

You guys have no idea WTF I am talking about.

bags. purses. handbags. pocketbooks.clutches.luggage.

You get the point.

For Christmas J got me a beautiful Michael Kors Leather Satchel, that I carefully picked out for myself and sent him the link.

I mean, how else was he going to know which style I like. and before anyone gets all “I can’t believe she did that” on me….J also sent me direct links to what he wanted.. EASY.

anyways…I always seem to get off topic…maybe I need to get that checked out….

AGAIN. Gahhhh…..

I literally get comments on my bag all the time, which is quite surprising to me since my bag game has never really been strong. Then again, I have never had a real designer bag before.

Let’s set the scene: think college, think 2008. Yikes. I know.

Mom: I got you a Michael Kors bag. It is the latest bag.

Me: yay! Let me see it

*sees it* *loves it*

Me: I love it!

Mom: There is a red one in the same style and I also have the Louis Vuitton and this Fendi

Me: Wait….are these fake?

Mom: Yes, what did you think? (Indian mom syndrome)

*checks bag. Looking for faulty seams and a terrible logo. They aren’t looking bad at all*

Me: I love it! Thank you!

*goes 10 years with the same fake bags until they literally have holes in them*

Story time over.

Michael Kors Cynthia SatchelFast forward 10 years with my desire to finally own something REAL.

Now I know some of you are thinking how bougie I am, but wait just a second!

A designer bag is an investment because it is that bag that will never go out of style, work with every outfit, fit all your “every day” shit in (wallet, makeup, keys, headphones, snacks…whateevz). It’s versatile, and the best part is (for the most part) it won’t deteriorate if you give it a little love and show it a little respect.

That is why I wanted this bag. After hundreds of dollars were wasted on more than a several bags that didn’t last, I finally wanted one that did.

After I sent J the link for the Michael Kors bag I sent him a link to a realllllllllllly cute Tory Burch shoulder bag.

I wanted a bag that would fit everything in it and still be cute and comfy to use. NEXT I wanted a bag that was good on the go for a night out. You know, something that felt effortless. Something that could fit my phone, my credit card and a good lip gloss, here, in it.

(ok, now you can call my bougie)

The shoulder bag was PERFECT for this. I can wrap it around my chest, it fits perfectly under and on top of jackets, super light, plus its pink and sparkly…so yeah…that’s that.

The best part about this Tory Burch bag was that it was bought second-hand BUT brand new.

Confusing right?

Somebody else had owned it but had never used it! It came in its original packaging with the tags on, so it felt like I had just bought it from the Tory Burch Store.

Now the BEST, BEST part was that I didn’t (well J didn’t) have to pay full designer price for this baby.

How awesome is that?

I heard about a website called Trendlee, which sells, and authenticates (make sure you aren’t getting a fake) luxury preowned bags.

These bags are discounted and makes it affordable to buy a not so affordable bag. You feel me?

I wish this site was around 10 years ago, but hey, it’s here now!

I don’t think I will be in the market for a new bag for a really long time, unless I am just in the mood to buy something pretty for myself, which actually doesn’t happen as often as you may think. However, this site is too much of a gem not to share.

What are your thoughts on designer bags?

Lovely post! Personally I always wear either the real ones or the no-logo ones that are not trying to be anything else. It’s just me put I cannot understand those fake ones, if you cannot get the real one, get a bag that’s nice but doesn’t pretend to be something that it isn’t. Probably the whole bag game is different for you and your mom but this is how I’ve been playing it. Around once a year I get a new designer bags but when I was younger I used those no-logos too. I’m happy you get a real designer piece you love! 🙂

I agree with you about the logos! I think if they are too big it can look tacky and it is merely for show.

Honestly I don’t have too many thoughts about designer bags. I do believe they are higher in quality and if you can get a good deal on one like this, then you should take it. That’s great you have arranged with your significant other to do gifts that way. It’s however it works for you and shouldn’t matter about what others think.

Your writing is so funny and I was giggling from the first sentence because I could relate. When I was a teenager I could not understand my mother’s love of shoes and handbags until I reached her age! I have not seen a designed handbag that I would spend my paycheck on but hope springs eternal.

I like Tory Burch’s handbag. They look posh and classic as well, not overpowering.

Totally agree! I like that the logo is simple and not over bearing.

My mother was quite the fashionista and I recall her having a bag for every occasion. With that said, I firmly believe that at least one designer bag is a staple that every woman should have in their wardrobe

That’s great! Did she let you use any of her bags?
