D R E A M S.
But, what are they? What do they mean?
Starting this Wednesday off going deeeeepppp into the mind.
Ok, so I’m not talking about the type of dreams you have while you sleep, although they can directly correlate with the dreams you have in reality. Does that sound weird?
Lately I have been thinking about the dreams I have for my life.
Dreams for a family, career, travel…seriously, there are so many things to dream about!
There are 2 things that I have specifically been dreaming about:
To get paid to travel around the world for free, eating all the best food, drinking all the best wine and exploring the unknowns of the world.
Le’ sigh..that’s a forever dream.
Becoming the next Master Chef!
If you follow me on Instagram @sweetandmasala you see that I cook ALL the time!
I haven’t been professionally trained but have learned a lot from my mother and grandmothers, books, and of course TV.
I am a food show addict and a huge fan of shoes like Top Chef, Chopped and Master Chef!
If you have never seen Master Chef, you HAVE to get in on this!
Master Chef is a culinary competition for amateur/home cooks. They are put to the test with a series of mystery box challenges, where there are random ingredients in a box to cook with, team challenges and the dreaded pressure tests, which is a do or die to keep your ass in the competition.
I have been a diehard fan of the show for about 5 years now and watch it religiously every week, wondering what I would make out of the ingredients presented to me in the 60 minute allotted time.
Alllllll of this being said….J and I are driving down to New York on Friday so that I can finally live out my Master Chef dream!!
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them – Walt Disney
I will be lining up with hundreds…well, perhaps thousands, of hopeful home cooks, just praying for a chance to make it to the top 20, win that Master Chef trophy and take home that 250k!
I have never been SO nervous and excited at the same time!
Basically I have to come prepared with a dish that can hold while I am waiting in line. I have no access to a fridge, microwave, stove…etc. You get the point.
I have decided to make a Gujarati dish to stick to my roots (I’ll tell you more about it after the auditions) and show off my culture. Plus, it doesn’t need to be refrigerated or heated up!
Once we are in the tasting room we have 3 minutes to plate for the judges, asked a few questions and then the decision is made on the spot if you make it to the second round.
As far as I know, the second round consist of a series of questions from producers and from there you just keep moving into rounds until you are invited to LA to battle it out with other cooks to make your way to the top 20, all while Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi watch you.
Like I said earlier….nervous and scared!
The notion that is getting me through all of this is that I am finally making moves to secure my dreams!!
Food is my passion. I love learning about ingredients; where they came from, how they taste, what they pair with, why they are important in different cultures.
Food is SO intimate.
It brings people together everyday.
The notion that food can make you happy is TRUE. You have to nourish your belly’s not just to live (which, HELLO, is a pretty big deal) but to keep you healthy and to feed your mind. OH and its fun!
Making it onto the show and learning from the best in the business about something I truly love, would be the WIN overall.
Maybe I won’t be stuck in banking forever…ya know?
Light at the end of the tunnel.
The moral of the story is only YOU can make things happen. Sounds cheesy as fuck, but you know its true.
You hold your own destiny. Make it work for you!
I will follow up with you all next week and give you the deats on it all!
I want to hear all about your dreams! What can I do to help? Let’s start empowering each other to make things happen!
