Dal Makhani with an Instant Pot

Dal Makhani with an Instant Pot

Dal Makhani, which literally translates to lentils cooked in butter is one of my favorite Indian comfort dishes.

It goes great with a spicy pickle, some jeera rice and naan.

It’s not exactly the healthiest meal that you’ve ever had, but hey, fuck it. You deserve to treat yourself from time to time!

The dish is made with split lentils and whole lentils like kidney beans and then is cooked down with butter, duh, and lots of spices and cream.

You’ll be LICKING your bowl clean!

Dal Makhani with an Instant Pot

This dish definitely takes some time to make, which helps bring all the spices together and cook the lentils down. Its mostly served for special occasions, or at a restaurant, but if you’re feeling indulgent, why not tonight?!

Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

If you want the lentils and kidney beans broken down more use an immersion blender to smooth out. This dish is supposed to be buttery, so don't be shy and feel free to add more butter to your bowl and serve with jeera rice and naan.

This sounds really nice. I love lentils and I am a big fan of Tarka Dahl. I will have to give this recipe a try.

I can see myself trying this out. It may not be the healthiest but if it tastes good, I’m game.

I can already taste it … butter and cream? Sign me up! Though my lactose intolerance may not agree, this will be delish.
